The
province of Massa Carrara, situated at
the northern most tip of Tuscany, is a
small area where nature has been particularly
generous. The most outstanding features of
its landscape are the sea and the Apuan Alps.
Nestled in among the hills and olive groves lies
Carrara, the capital of marble. Behind
the town, the mountains hold a treasure wich is
dear to sculptors of all times. This is
where Michelangelo himself came to choose
his marble. Yet, the mountains seem to be
untouched by the two-thousand years of man's toil
and labour. Its numerous castles, villages
and Romanesque parishes stand out against
a landscape offering countless gentle, relaxing
views to the eye of the beholder. Massa
boast a rather unique location connected to
all arts town in Tuscany, being only 10-minute
drive to Versilia, half an hour drive to Le Cinque
Terre, a little longer to Pisa and Lucca
and an hour's drive to Florence. |
