Poggibonsi is a modern town, not touristic. The historical
part is a road which arrive to the Duomo and the town hall.
The location is favourable, florence is 40 Km and Siena 25,
San Gimignano only 11 and the Chianti Area too. There are
several accommodations and hotels near Poggibonsi, the countryside
around the town is beautiful and rich of history.

We stayed at a nearby Villa for 1 week late April 2006... Making daily trips to town for groceries etc we got to know (sort of) and enjoy this town. It's not very tourist friendly but, we saw through that and really enjoyed the place. We got lost and did a complete circle around the town walking to find where we had parked. Actually one of our highlights! We got to see what we would otherwise have missed.
We came to a dead end street had to do some back tracking ~ but, got to see some of the older homes and gardens. One yard in particular had a massive tree with old dog hanging out along the fence line. Gorgeous! We saw so many gorgeous sights while in Tuscany ~ but it's not those I remember it's the town and the people in shops unfriendly and kind. We'll always remember the corner parfumerie where no one offered to help us ~ the little bakery/lunch bar where all the locals came pouring into as if on cue. There is a lighting store on the outskirts here we had a look and had helpful service from one of the employees... Offering to send any thing we might want back to Canada. I really wanted to stop in at the terra cotta merchants but, by then my Husband was sick of stop and shopping... There are a lot of beautiful sights but not all are easily located... It pays to drive around and you'll find things no one would think to tell you about. It a neat place!
