Pienza is a small Jewel. The town is small but really need a stop. Is located in the middle of Val d' Orcia, you can easily reach Montepulciano, San Quirico and Montalcino. Is a perfect place for walking and hiking, infact all the company which organize walking tours and bicycle tours start or arrive in this area. Definitely a must to see.

C. M. from Italy
Pienza is the jewel in the Renaissance crown but it should only be experienced out of season when its tiny streets are devoid of tourists.  Come mid-week in early spring when it's still warm enough to enjoy lunch or a glass of wine at a pavement cafe.  Spring too is the best time to enjoy the sensational Val d'Orcia, now a UNESCO preserved heritage site and one of the most stunning areas of natural beauty in Europe.  This can be viewed in all its splendour from a magnificent walkway in Pienza.
Don't please bother making the journey in busy July and August.  You won't get to see, feel, experience Pienza as anything other than a surging mass of humanity shoving its way through narrow lanes.  You won't be able to park either!
