Riparbella - Well-known and
oft-cited in medieval sources, Riparbella preserves from this
era the church of San Giovanni Evangelists (Saint John the
Evangelist).
Located near the flat grounds of the
Cecina on former marshland which was both easy to defend and
rich in fauna, the town was a fief until 1755 and was made
autonomous in 1780 by Leopoldo di Lorena.
The town which is famous for its woodworking
and Mediterranean bush inhabited by numerous wild boar is
especially appreciated for its cuisine based on wild game
and mushrooms and other dishes typical of Tuscan cooking.
